How to store leftover ham in the fridge

1. Use a purpose made calico ham bag, pillow case or even a large tea towel. Whatever you use, make sure the bag or case completely covers the ham.
   
2. Mix together 4 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and wet the bag, make sure it is completely soaked through.
   
3. Wring it out slightly so it's not dripping and place ham inside or wrap completely in the tea towel. Store in coolest part of fridge (usually at the bottom).
   
4. Repeat every 2-3 days or when the wrapping dries out.
   
5. To serve, slice off the amount of ham you need. Rewrap and return to refrigerator as soon as possible. Meat should not be left out of the refrigerator for more than 2 hours total.

How long does ham last in the fridge

A ham kept in the fridge like this should last at least a week. 

Always check your ham before eating, any off odours or a slimy surface are sure signs that the ham is no longer good to eat.

How to store ham in the freezer

1. Slice leftover Christmas ham off the bone. Divide into smaller serves that your family can eat in one meal.
   
2. Wrap in in foil, followed by cling film. Place into a freezer bag or sealable container. Label and date.
   
3. Freeze.
   
4. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before using.

How long can you freeze ham?

Frozen ham is best eaten within four months. Once defrosted, use it as soon as possible.
